Live Blogging – Hydrate Chem Lab

• 11:55 am – second bell rings – all students on time
• 11:58 am – safety instructions delivered – students break into groups
• 12:03 pm – AP Chemistry theme song starts playing on Pandora (“Everybody Hurts”)
• 12:08 pm – Oops! Forgot to take attendance! Why is this so hard to do?
• 12:10 pm – Students are taking pictures of the lab equipment and each other for their blogs
• 12:15 pm – safety talk RE-delivered to a group that needs extra attention 🙂
• 12:18 pm – some students are taking video of the colored flame
• 12:20 pm – The first crucible of the year is broken right away! This isn’t the record but it is close
• 12:26 pm – the lab lends itself to chatter and conversation – seniors getting to know sophomores
• 12:32 pm – first lab group finishes lab data collection
• 12:39 pm – most groups are finished and putting away their equipment
• 12:40 pm  – the bell rings and those groups that are finished leave
• 12:42 pm – lunch has started and a relaxed mixture of students finishes their work
• 12:50 pm – only two groups remain – the group that broke the crucible and the “unsafe” group
• 12:53 pm – only one group left – I admire the fact that they aren’t rushing to get results
• 12:58 pm – remaning student asking questions light spectra and thermodynamics – awesome!
• 1:03 pm – final group finished – students start comparing rough calculations
• 1:10 pm – I am done and off to eat lunch during the remaining 15 minutes
