Second Chances

How to reclaim points

Calvin & Hobbes

Maybe you want a chance to retake an exam to raise your score? Maybe your lab score is low and you want more points? Maybe you never submitted an assignment and wish to get some credit? Here are the guidelines for reclaiming points in this course.

Missing or Late Work

If you are late in submitting an assignment, please follow these guidelines

  • Submit your work as soon as possible
  • No permission or conversation is required (just do the work and submit).
  • The points awarded depend on the circumstances, but up to 100% credit may be awarded, although the general guideline is to award 85%.
  • No email submissions are acceptable

Homework / Lab Work / Lab Reports

If you wish to raise your score on an already-submitted assignment, you may resubmit according to the following guidelines:

  • Submit your work as soon as possible.
  • No permission or conversation is required (just do the work and submit).
  • The points awarded depend on the circumstances, but up to 100% credit may be awarded, although the general guideline is to award 85%.
  • No email submissions will be accepted
  • Completely rework and resubmit the entire assignment.
  • Include the original submission with the new work, labeled according to the course guidelines.
  • The new grade will completely replace the original grade

Quizzes / Tests

You will be allowed to “retake” any testing item with a score of less than 85% according to the following rules.

  • Completely rewrite the test/quiz answers with corrections (you do not need to write the questions). This includes those answers that were completely correct.
  • Complete one page (or more) of extra practice work (found in the textbook) with complete solutions.
  • Submit this work, hand-written on binder paper, within five calendar days (not school days) of receiving the returned test or quiz.
  • You will then be eligible to earn points by retaking the test/quiz.
  • The teacher will contact you to let you know of the date of the retake test.
  • Your new score will completely replace the original score (up to 85%). Your original score cannot be lowered by retaking a test or quiz.
  • You may only retake an item only once.
