Physics Honors – Lab 03 – Acceleration Due to Gravity
Purpose
the purpose of this lab is to determine the acceleration due to gravity of an object in free fall
Procedure
Students are responsible for writing their own procedures to measure the acceleration due to gravity
The procedure should use a motion sensor (with the GLX) and a bouncing ball
the analysis and determination of “g” is similar to the process used in the prior lab
could the lab generate more than one “g” per trial?
NOTE: coaching on saving data files and renaming data files and multiple runs
Extend
do you get the same result if you throw the ball down?
do you get the same result if you toss the ball upwards?
do you get the same results if you spin the ball?
can you determine the diameter of the ball?
can you determine the distance to the floor?
Reporting
what did you find?
what factors introduced uncertainty into the lab?
what is your percent error? (known = 9.80665 m/s2)
how did the factors mentioned above change the value?
