Activity – Isotopes

• Determine the number of “old” and “new” pennies in your sample without counting the pennies in the provided sample
• The pre-1982 and post-1982 pennies have different masses
• Each sample of “coinium” has 27 pennies
• Determine the number (percentage) of each type of penny in your sample
• write a procedure, collect data, get answer

• not allowed to open container
• allowed to measure known pennies from each type
• allowed to measure empty container
• there is a “right” answer
