Lab Notebooks Rule!

Dates

• Class Meetings 49, 50, 51 (starts on December 7th)
• Final Exam Meeting Period (Finals week starts December 14th)

Day 1 – Preparation

• read the handout posted for the assignment
• prepare all of the parts in the LNB for the lab
• work on the research for the lab processes
• use MLA Citations (parenthetical and Works Cited)
• safety concerns for the lab

Day 2 & Day 3 – Lab Part 1 (Known Samples)

• work through the tests for the lab in class
• record everything in your LNB (neatly and organized)
• you must be finished with pre-lab before starting
• work at a table (not at the sample table)
• wash all glassware
• return all items to original locations
• you only need a very small amount of sample to test
• ask Colin about using the Bunsen Burner

Oral Quiz

• Sometime starting Day 3 you will be asked to meet with me briefly
• I will ask you about a chemistry concept associated with the lab
• You will be able to use your LNB

Final Lab Day

• you will be given one sample
• determine the identity of the sample using the tests from prior lab days
• no test, no quiz, no written questions
• your LNB is submitted with all of your work

• 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm = Mark, Emma, AJ, Cameron, Evan, Anderson, Stefan
• 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm = Jetta, Emerson, Maia, Madeline, Luke, Caleb, Matt

Period  B (Thursday)

• 10:00 am – 11:30 am = Corinne, Sara, Simon, Andrew M, Luke, Matty, Mike, Cassie
• 11:30 am – 1:00 pm = Giorgio, Roddy, Peter, Grace, Olivia, Rob, Rob, Andrew Z

Period A (Friday – adjusted one hour early)

• 9:00 am – 10:30 am = Roger, Celia, Ryan, Taber, John, Kirian, Nadia
