CH07 – Moles

Dates
- P1 – Thursday, January 26th
- P3 – Wednesday, January 25th
- P5 – Friday, January 27th
Demo Recap – Did we have any fun?
- Produce a video that is less than 2 minutes in length
- speed-up / slow-down the recording (if necessary) to easily view “the chemistry”
- Overlay text that instructs the viewer on the chemistry of the demo
- Overlay with graphics (if necessary) to emphasize important parts of the demo
- Note: include names / class period in text
- It is OK to add a soundtrack / voice-over to add creative emphasis
- All videos are uploaded to a Castilleja YouTube account with public viewing access
- Post VideoLink to “Chemistry Honors” Schoology Group [LINK]
- Include student names and course period in Schoology post

- Q2 = units conversion
- Quick quiz!
- Know these prefixes: Mega, kilo, centi, milli, micro, nano
New Idea!
New Material – Moles
- If I have ONE MOLE of a substance then I have a mass of that substance equal to the mass shown on the periodic table
- This is called: MOLAR MASS
- <molar mas is the mass of ONE mole>
- Example – one mole of cargbon atoms = 12.01 grams
How do we use this?
- Determine the mass of one mole of each of the following: aluminum, water, carbon dioxide
- Determine the number of atoms in a 25.3-gram sample of helium
- UNITS UNITS UNITS
- PROCESS PROCESS PROCESS
Homework
- Ch. 3 (52, 54, 56)
- SHOW EACH BLANK AS A SEPARATE PROBLEM
