Virtual Lab Support

Welcome to the Virtual Lab!

The virtual lab is software designed to replicate the chemistry and decision-making in a real chemistry lab. The software allows for unlimited trials and experimentation in key areas of the course.

Background

The virtual lab is software written by the “ChemCollective,” a group based at Carnegie Mellon University. The main page [LINK] has a great amount of information, and two of the main areas are highlighted below

The Software

  • I asked you to download the software so that you could have the FULL featuresof the software project. However, over the past few years the ChemCollective has worked to convert the software to be web-based.
  • So, there are actually TWO OPTIONS to conduct the lab: web (HTML5) and Java. If you are having trouble instaling the Java program then use the web version.
  • Note: the web version doesn’t have all of the assignments or features. Also, the web version works differently than the Java version. It is, however, a way to bypass software issues for those having difficulty installing the software.
  • The web version is linked here: [LINK] At the bottom of this page is a link to download the software, which is the one I passed along to you earlier on the course.
